By keeping the threaded handle 1/2 way in the center of the arm, you will only have to turn the handle 2-3 times to compress the gear.  Once the drive is compressed it allows you to work with both hands FREE to remove the retainer clip.  The pusher plates with the round gear hold adjust up and down for different size drives.  Just place the 10/32 screw in the hole that places it horizontal with the gear face.
